Update from AS&FC: Sheffield confirmed in ‘Very High’ category

Although it is disappointing that the region is heading into the Tier 3 category, there is good news that the Club can stay open.

Thanks to Covid-secure safety measures, data shows a low prevalence of Covid-19 in gyms and leisure centres (Uk Active, Sep 2020). Through the winter months it is important for health that we try to achieve the recommended physical activity levels of 150 minutes per week (Sport England), so we are happy that we can play a role in supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of our members by staying open.

In order to keep the Club a safe environment we ask you to be extra conscious of the procedures, starting with the new regulation regarding distances with other members:

-Arrive individually and exercise individually, unless working with an exercise professional or member of the same household.
-Don’t congregate and please maintain a minimum of 2m when training (especially when using machines with yellow tape on) and when commuting.
-Maintain personal hygiene. There are cleaning stations all around the Club, please ensure equipment is wiped down before and after use.
-Regularly wash or sanitise your hands.
-Adhere to government isolation guidelines.
-Minimise toilet use.

For an extensive list of the procedures please see the notice boards in reception and outside the gym.

Although there are restrictions for court use, we are still able to play squash and racketball in some capacity. These being:

-Playing with someone from the same household.
-Solo practice.
-Junior sessions (same guidance as Tier 2)
-1-to-1 coaching (with distancing). Whether you just want to play sides, or you want to improve your game, it is a great way to get a sweat on and get your squash/ racketball fix.

One final note regarding opening hours. As of Monday 26th Oct there will be the slightly earlier closing times of 20:30 on Mondays and 19:30 on Fridays. We had previously stayed open later on these days as we were running the squash ‘club nights’, which are now paused.

We look forward to seeing you soon and thanks again for your continued support. We hope you can use AS&FC as the safe environment needed to facilitate an active and healthy autumn and winter.
